BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team got off to a hot start and led UNC Pembroke after three quarters. However, the Braves put together a big fourth quarter to take the Conference Carolinas tilt 56-45.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- The Tornado knocked down five triples in the opening 10 minutes, two each from Jaden Potts and Brianna Dunbar.
- Potts made the first to get King on the board before Dunbar drilled back-to-back trifectas to give King an 11-7 lead with four minutes remaining in the period.
- Following a Jhayda McKinney three-point basket an two Alexa Gramann free throws, Potts connected from long range again to give King a 19-14 lead after the first stanza.
Second Period
- Following a Jaylasia Office triple in early in the second quarter, the Braves scored five straight points to even the score at 22.
- However, Potts and McKinney connected on consecutive triples to regain the lead for the Tornado.
- The score was again tied at 28 before a Jaelyn West three-point basket gave King a 31-28 lead at the half.
Third Period
- A Dunbar basket gave King an early 33-28 lead in the third quarter before another UNC Pembroke run.
- The Braves scored six straight to take a 34-33 lead before a West triple gave the lead back to the Tornado.
- Morgan Bone made it a 38-34 lead after the third quarter when she made a jump shot with 34 seconds remaining.
Fourth Period
- UNC Pembroke started the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run to take a 46-38 lead before a pair of Dunbar free throws.
- The King deficit grew to 50-40 before an Ashley Phillip three-point play pulled King within 50-43 with two minutes remaining.
- However, the Tornado couldn't get any closer as the Braves took the contest 56-45.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Dunbar led the Tornado with 14 points while Potts added nine points.
- Ashley Allen grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
- Kalaya Hall led UNC Pembroke with 15 points while Zaria Clark added 12 points and four rebounds.
- Kelci Adams chipped in with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
UP NEXT
- King returns to the court on Tuesday to take on Wingate University. Tipoff from the Student Center Complex is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
- UNC Pembroke is in action again on Saturday against Young Harris College.
