Tornado sweep nonconference doubleheader over Senators

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University softball team resumed their winning ways Sunday afternoon, sweeping a nonconference doubleheader over Davis & Elkins College, winning game one 3-2 on a walk-off single from Peyton Day before pouring on the runs in a 11-5 game two victory.

KING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Maggie Deel went 4-for-5 on the day, with a home run and four RBI.
  • The Tornado hit three home runs, with Tinsley Thompson and Jessica Campbell also going deep.
  • Savanna Luper picked up the win in game one before grabbing a save in the second game.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Tornado struck in the bottom of the second, with Camryn Haag singling through the left side with one out.
  • The next batter was Deel, who blasted her home run to left field, putting King ahead 2-0.
  • The Senators responded in the sixth, scoring two runs on a single up the middle, tying the game at two.
  • After setting the Senators down in order in the seventh, Campbell reached base on a fielding error, advancing to second when Erin Foster was hit by a pitch.
  • After a fielder's choice moved Campbell to third, she would score the game-winning run on a single up the middle by Day, ending the game with King winning 3-2.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Neither team was able to get a hit until the top of the third, when the Senators used two hits to score a run, taking the 1-0 lead.
  • The Tornado responded in a big way in the bottom of the frame, scoring five runs on five hits, including an RBI triple by Thompson and RBI singles from Carly Turner, Camryn Haag and Deel.
  • Campbell hit her home run in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 1-2 pitch and depositing it over the right field fence to extend the lead to 6-1.
  • Davis & Elkins got one of the runs back in the top of the fifth on an RBI double.
  • The Senators would add three more in the top of the sixth on three hits, getting to within 7-5.
  • The Tornado once again responded in a big way in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs on four hits, including an RBI double by Haylee Dye, and consecutive RBI singles by Haag and Day.
  • Deel picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly, stretching the lead to 11-5.
  • The Senators would get a leadoff runner in the seventh, but couldn't score, ending the game with the Tornado recording the sweep.
