DUNCAN, S.C. – The top seeded King University softball team staved off elimination on Saturday at the Conference Carolinas Softball Championship, defeating ninth seed UNC Pembroke for the second time in as many nights. The Tornado topped the Braves 5-1 behind another outstanding performance from
Madison Walter in the circle.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carly Turner started the King half of the second inning with a single and Helms followed with a double.
- Bradlie Warner then drove in one with a groundball before a Haag groundout plated Helms.
- Jessica Campbell drove in Warner with a single before scoring on a Haylee Dye single to give King a 4-0 lead.
- UNC Pembroke got on the board in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a Tornado error to pull within 4-1.
- King loaded the bases in the fourth inning, but the Braves got out of the inning as the Tornado held the 4-1 advantage.
- Haag started the sixth with a single and later scored on a Lawson two-out double, extending the King lead to 5-1.
- Walter then retired the side in order in the seventh to give King the 5-1 victory.
