HAMPTON, Va. – The King University men's wrestling team split their duals on the first day of the Virginia Duals, topping Penn College of Technology 31-15 before narrowly falling to Averett University 22-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED – PENN COLLEGE
- Tyson Upchurch won the first bout, a 5:00 pin of Luke Heimbach to put King in front 6-0.
- After Penn won the next two bouts to take a 9-6 lead, Demetri Teddlie won a 11-9 decision at 149 pounds, evening the score at nine.
- That started a streak of five straight wins for the Tornado, with Bo Perkins, Trent Mahoney and Ethan Lopez all winning pins, along with a decision win by Vincent Galang.
- The Wildcats would win a pin at 197 pounds, with Jacob Telles winning an overtime victory at 285 pounds to win the dual 31-15 for the Tornado.
HOW IT HAPPENED – AVERETT
- The Cougars won the first two matches, taking a 11-0 lead.
- King then won four in a row, with Nico Crosnoe, Perkins and Mahoney all winning via major decision, giving King a 15-11 lead.
- After Averett won a tech fall at 174 pounds, Clint Morrisette won a 4-1 victory over George Moseley in overtime to put King back in front, 18-16.
- The Cougars then won the final two bouts, including a 5-2 overtime win at 285 pounds to take the dual 22-18.
