MURFREESBORO, N.C. – An early goal by Chowan proved to be the difference Saturday as the King University men's soccer team fell on the road, 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It took the Hawks less than 30 seconds to get a shot, which sailed over the top of the net.
- Leonardo Mercondes took a shot in the 12th minute that was blocked by a Chowan defender.
- Off a free kick in the 23rd minute, Campbell Moore took a shot, which was also blocked by the Hawks defense.
- The Chowan goal came in the 27th minute off a penalty kick, putting Chowan ahead 1-0.
- After Gauthier Lumale made his first save of the day, the Tornado got their first shot on goal in the 27th minute, which resulted in a team save for Chowan.
- Coming out of halftime, King's offense started to attack, as Francisco Alvarez took a shot that was blocked, followed a few minutes later by Alvarez taking another shot, which forced the Chowan goalkeeper to make a save.
- Lumale made another save, just his second of the day in the 66th minute, keeping the score 1-0.
- Renan Caruso took a shot in the 71st minute that was stopped by the Hawks goalkeeper.
- In the 81st minute, Lumale made another save, this one on a penalty kick awarded to Chowan, which he stopped to keep the deficit still at 1-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Alvarez, Caruso, Ryan Aliam and Pedro Herrera all had shots on goal for the Tornado.
- Lumale finished with five saves in net.
FOR THE FOES
- Junior Smith had the penalty kick goal for Chowan, finishing with a team-high two shots on goal.
- Chase Jansen made three saves on the afternoon.
