Tornado comeback attempt comes up short against the Trailblazers

Tigerville, S.C. – The King University women's volleyball team closed out the road portion of their schedule as they traveled to face the North Greenville Trailblazers on Friday evening. After a slow first set, the Tornado made both the second and third sets close, but could not get a set victory as the home team took the match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • King struggled in the opening set, falling 25-7.
  • The Tornado had five players each get a kill
Second Set
  • The Tornado trailed for the first half of the set before a kill from Gracia Love tied the set at 13 and an ace from Bailey Fersner gave King a short-lived lead.
  • Both teams traded points until North Greenville got three points in a row. They would maintain that lead, but King would bring it close finishing with 23 points.
  • Gracia Love led the offense with 5 kills in the second set and Bailey Fersner had 2 aces.
Third Set
  • King took a three point lead to start the third set with Izzy Krick beginning the scoring with a kill with an assist from Kylie Love.
  • The Tornado would lead until the Trailblazers came to tied the game and then take the lead with five unanswered.
  • A kill from Capri Johnson tied the score again at 21, however Gracia Love's following kill was the last points from King as they were swept by North Greenville.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Gracia Love was the only Tornado with double-digit kills with 10.
  • Bailey Fersner had 2 aces and 6 kills to help the King scoring
  • Izzy Krick had 1.5 blocks up front and Capri Johnson had 2 block assists.
  • Kylie Love had 25 assists on the evening.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Nicole Santiago had a match-high 11 kills and Peyton Taylor had a match-high 10 digs.
  • Allison Ball and Linsey Burke were the two setters for North Greenville. Ball recorded 21 and Burke had 13.
  • Both Burke and Samantha Ball had 2 aces.
  • Taya Knier had 4.0 total blocks including 2 solo.
 
UP NEXT
The King University women's volleyball team will conclude the regular season at home on November 12. The match against Belmont Abbey is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.
