Tornado fall to Lenoir-Rhyne on the road

HICKORY, N.C. – The King University women's basketball team fell to Lenior-Rhyne in their final game of 2024.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lenior-Rhyne 82 – King 55
LOCATION: Shuford Memorial Arena; Hickory, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • Ashley Allen started the Tornado's scoring with a layup following an offensive rebound.
  • Le'Aije Ellington also hit a layup while Sarah Thompson hit a three-pointer but Lenior-Rhyne ended the first quarter with a 17 point lead.
Second Quarter
  • Ellington and Thompson hit back-to-back layups a few minutes into the second quarter.
  • Both teams traded baskets as halftime approached. King got shots from Williams, Allen, and Addison before heading to the locker room down 45-22.
Third Quarter
  • King scored first in the second half with a jump shot from Thompson.
  • Williams went on a 6-2 run before West and Allen hit two shots. Thompson's three-point shot with 2:30 to go brought the Tornado within 16 points.
Fourth Quarter
  • Lenoir-Rhyne expanded their lead to 29 before Thompson hit another layup, but the home team responded quickly with a fastbreak layup.
  • Ellington had a couple of layup midway through. Out of the first media timeout, Alexa Gramann hit a layup, a free throw, and another layup for five unanswered.
  • Williams had her twelfth points of the game with a layup with 2:34 left. Gramann scored the last three points for King on and old-fashioned three-point play.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE  
FOR THE FOES
  • Sarah Burton, Blaikley Crooks, and Tilda Lindstrom all scored a game-high 15 points. Lindstrom also had a game-high 11 rebounds, all of them off the defensive glass.
  • Alexandra Merceron scored 14 points and had all six of her rebounds on the defensive end. She also dished out a game-high six assists.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne held a lead for the entirety of the game. They had 33 of their 82 points come from bench players and outscored King on points from turnovers (14-10), inside the paint (32-30) and on fast breaks (8-5)
 
UP NEXT
The King University women's basketball team will take a few weeks off before they travel to Wofford on January 4th for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
