LONG BEACH, Calif. – The King University men's volleyball team traveled to take on the top team in the country, Long Beach State University. The Tornado fell on Friday night 3-0.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: #1 Long Beach State 3, King 0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-17)

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- Long Beach State started the match by hitting .545 in the opening set, but the Tornado kept the set close early.
- A kill from Kellan Kennedy and block from Justin Sawyer evened the score at four.
- A Kolten Soon kill again evened the tally at five before back-to-back Long Beach State points.
- The Tornado stayed within two points before a 3-0 put Long Beach State ahead 17-12.
- King couldn't recover as Long Beach State took the set 25-17.
Second Set
- The Long Beach State offense improved to hit .667 in the second set as they used a 6-0 run to take an early 9-2 lead.
- The Tornado offense improved as well, but they couldn't keep up with the high-powered Long Beach State offense as King dropped the set 25-11.
Third Set
- King held the advantage in the early part of the third set as two kills from Warren Davis as well as kill from Colton Bueter and Grayson Stoudt gave the Tornado a 6-4 advantage.
- However, a 4-0 Long Beach State run gave them a 9-7 lead before they gradually pulled away.
- Long Beach State then took the set 25-17 after scoring the final four points to take the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Davis led the Tornado with nine kills while Soon followed with six terminations.
- Andrew Haber handed out 18 assists and added three digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Clarke Godbold and Daniil Hershtynovich led Long Beach State with eight kills each while Nathan Harlan added seven terminations.
- Aidan Knipe handed out 32 assists and added five digs.
- Mason Briggs chipped in with five digs.
