King falls to LMU's high powered offense

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team played well, but Lincoln Memorial University play a little better on Tuesday night in the Student Center Complex. Both teams hit better than .350 in the match, but the Railsplitters took the match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • The teams traded points until back-to-back Lincoln Memorial points gave the Railsplitters a 14-12 lead.
  • The King deficit grew to 17-14 after consecutive Lincoln Memorial points.
  • King tried to comeback down the stretch with consecutive kills from Mason Martindale and Warren Davis, the Railsplitters scored the last point to take the set 25-22.
Second Set
  • Lincoln Memorial used a 4-1 run and a 3-0 spurt to open up an 11-6 lead in the set.
  • King responded with three straight points as a Grayson Stoudt ace pulled the Tornado within 11-9.
  • Following a 4-1 Lincoln Memorial run, King scored three straight, two on kills from Davis and Martindale to pull within 18-16.
  • The Railsplitters used a 5-1 run to close out the 25-19.
Third Set
  • Lincoln Memorial used a 4-0 run to take control of the third set with a 10-5 advantage.
  • King chipped away at the deficit, but the Railsplitters used a 5-1 run to regain a 20-15.
  • Martindale then started a 3-0 spurt before Kellan Kennedy and Martindale came up with a block to pull King within 24-22.
  • However, the Railsplitters scored the next point to take the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • King hit .378 in the match and were led by 10 kills from Drooker and Davis.
  • Martindale added eight kills while Kennedy accounted for two blocks.
  • Aiden Olson handed out 33 assists and added a team-high seven digs.
FOR THE FOES
  • The Railsplitters hit .475 in the match and were led by 16 kills and an attack percentage of .520 from Griffin Wheatley.
  • Matthew Gentry followed with 10 kills and an attack percentage of .467.
  • Kohl Kutsch added 37 assists and a team-high nine digs.
