Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. – Three members of the King University women's basketball team scored in double figures Saturday afternoon as the Tornado held on for a 58-50 win over Chowan.
Sarah Thompson led all scorers with 18 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- Chowan held a 5-2 lead four minutes into the quarter, eventually making it 12-6 with 3:03 left in the quarter.
- King scored five of the final seven points, trimming the Chowan lead to 14-11 at the end of the period.
Second Period
- The Tornado dominated in the second quarter, scoring the first nine points, taking a 20-15 lead of their own at the under-five media timeout.
- King finished the quarter on a 10-2 scoring run, with Mariya Williams and Thompson each scoring four points during the stretch.
- In the final five minutes, the Tornado were a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line, making three field goals to take a 30-17 lead into halftime.
Third Period
- Chowan started the quarter on a 10-5 scoring run, pulling to within 35-27 with just over five minutes to play.
- The Tornado scored 10 points in the final five minutes, including a three from Thompson that made it a 42-31 King lead with 1:05 remaining.
- After the Hawks hit a three on the other end, Alexa Gramann hit an old fashioned three-point play, giving the Tornado a 45-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Period
- King started the quarter hot, with Williams needing just 13 seconds to hit a three, after which Thompson hit a three off a Le'Aije Ellington assist to put King in front 50-35.
- Jaelyn West hit a free throw with just over a minute left to play, which was followed by Chowan closing the game on a 5-1 scoring run, but the Tornado were able to hang on for the 58-50 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Thompson finished with a game-high 18 points, one of three Tornado to score in double figures. Joining her were Williams (13) and Gramann (11).
- Ashley Allen pulled 13 rebounds, along with two blocks on the night.
FOR THE FOES
- Yasmine Brown scored 16 points to lead the Hawks, while Meara Carter added 10, along with a team-high seven rebounds.
- Brown also had six steals, with Carter contributing five on the game.
