Bristol, Tenn. - The King University women's basketball team defeated conference foe Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- King University opened the game with a trapping press defense, forcing 8 turnovers in the first quarter to give King an early 23 to 15 advantage. Offensively, Mariya Williams and Sarah Thompson led the Tornado tallying 7 and 6 points respectively. King never trailed in the game.
- The Tornado used an 11 to 3 run at the end of the second quarter to give King a 14 point lead going into the locker room. Le'Aije Ellington sparked the run, drilling two 3-point shots. Jaden Potts added another 3-pointer while Williams capped off the run with a steal and layup.
- King opened the second half with a 9 to 2 run to stretch their lead 21 points. Thompson fueled the run scoring 7 points while Williams added two free throws. King led comfortably 55 to 39 at the end of the third quarter.
- In the 4th quarter, the Tornado outscored the Warriors 19 to 9. Williams scored 13 of her career-high 24 points in the period.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Williams finished with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Teammate Ashley Allen also earned a double-double in the contest finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Thompson had 20 points while handing out 4 assists in the victory.
- King limited SWU to shooting just 27% from the field, including a miserable 4 of 27 from beyond the arc. King dominated the boards 53 to 28, giving up just 4 second chance points to SWU.
- The Tornado defense forced 22 turnovers leading to 34 points.
