Tornado edge out the Flying Fleet

DUE WEST, S.C. – The King University men's volleyball team edged out the Erskine College Flying Fleet to win in four sets to earn a Conference Carolinas victory.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL: King 3 – Erskine 1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-23, 25-23)
LOCATION: Belk Arena; Due West, S.C.
RECORDS: King 3-16, 3-6 CC | Erskine 7-10, 3-5 CC
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Erskine scored the first two points, King responded with four straight points with kills from Justin Sawyer and Alessandro Fermani as well as a service ace from Colton Bueter. The Tornado later scored four more unanswered points with a kill from Grayson Stoudt, and a kill and ace from Sean Haberthy.
  • The Tornado were able to earn the 25-23 opening set victory. Bueter had four kills while Haberthy had two aces.
  • The second set went back and forth with neither team earning more than a three-point lead. Out of a King timeout late in the second set, Bueter had a kill before Erskine scored to make it set-point. King extended the set with a kill from Sawyer to make it 24-23. The Flying Fleet took the second set 26-24.
  • Sawyer had a team-high five kills while Fermani had four.
  • King scored the first two points of the third set off errors from Erskine. The Tornado remained in the lead until the media timeout at 15-14. Erskine tied the set right out of the timeout before King retook the lead. Bueter finished the set with his fifth kill of the set as King retained their lead from 16-15.
  • Erskine quickly got a six-point lead in the fourth set. King's comeback started with back-to-back kills from Fermani. The Tornado tied the score at 14. Bueter's ace gave King their largest lead of the set a 23-20 before kills from Fermani and Sawyer secured King's set and match win.
