Watkins earns All-America status at national championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Brennan Watkins of the King University men's wrestling team earned All-America status with a third-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. King had a total of four athletes compete at the national championships meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After a first round loss, Watkins won his next two matches, starting with a 5-3 win over Central Oklahoma's Dylan Brown, followed by a 10-4 win over Chad Ozias of Pitt.-Johnstown to advance to day two, earning All-America status.
• After winning his consolation semifinal via medical forfeit, Watkins earned a narrow 9-8 decision over Dean Noble of Western Colorado, becoming the highest finisher at the national championships for King since Dustin Kirk finished third at the 2017 national championships.
• Trent Mahoney went 1-2 at 157 pounds, with a first round win over Nebraska Kearney's Cael Robb via major decision before a quarterfinal loss and consolation round loss.
• At 174 pounds, Clint Morrisette won his prelim match 14-4 over Jeremiah Halter of Drury before dropping a 9-4 decision. He then won via medical forfeit before falling via major decision in the second consolation round.
• David Bertrand wrestled at 197 pounds, dropping his first match 8-0 before losing a narrow 2-1 decision in the first consolation round.
