Bulldogs defeat Tornado in three sets

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team fell to the Barton College Bulldogs in three sets on Friday evening.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL: Barton 3 – King 0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-14)
LOCATION: Student Center Complex; Bristol, Tenn.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • King began the first set with two points before both teams traded points. Barton then went on a 9-3 run to take a 14-9 lead. King scored twice before the Bulldogs scored their fifteenth point to lead into the media timeout.
  • The Tornado scored three straight out of the timeout with kills from Grayson Stoudt and Justin Sawyer to get within a point. There were five more points where the score was tied before Barton scored 4 in a row and allowing them to take the first set 25-21.
  • Sawyer and Stoudt combined for seven kills in the opening set.
  • A kill from Colton Bueter scored the first point of the second set. Both teams were close throughout the set, with the largest lead of four points coming when Barton got up 22-18. King battled back with four in a row to tie the set at 22 with a block from JP Ribeiro.
  • Barton scored the final point of the set to take a 2-0 match lead with a 25-23 win in the second set.
  • Sawyer added four more kills to his total while Bueter also had 4 kills. Ribeiro had two solo blocks for the Tornado.
  • The third set opened with two straight point for the Tornado including another kill from Bueter to open. Barton quickly took a 10-3 lead and continued the momentum as they went 7-0 to end the set.
 
KING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Justin Sawyer had 11 kills and 7 digs. He also got a block assist.
  • Colton Bueter had nine total kills, with four kills in both the second and third sets. He had a match-high 23 receptions and two block assists.
  • Javi Saldivar had 9 digs and 19 receptions as the defensive specialist while JP Ribeiro had 29 assists and two solo blocks.

King will host Conference Carolina leading Mount-Olive tomorrow at 2pm.
