King Tennis Hosts Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas Matchup

King University welcomed Belmont Abbey College to the King Tennis Courts on Saturday for Conference Carolinas matchups, as both men’s and women’s teams battled the visiting Crusaders. The men’s team dropped a 7-0 decision as the Crusaders captured the doubles point and all singles flights. The women also fell 7-0 with Belmont Abbey taking all doubles and singles matches.

Bristol, Tenn. — King University welcomed Belmont Abbey College to the King Tennis Courts on Saturday for Conference Carolinas matchups, as both men's and women's teams battled the visiting Crusaders. The men's team dropped a 7-0 decision as the Crusaders captured the doubles point and all singles flights. The women also fell 7-0 with Belmont Abbey taking all doubles and singles matches.
 
Men:
The closest match of the day came at No. 2 singles, where Bar Meshel battled hard before falling 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 to Issac Buerkle. At No. 1 singles, Danny Neleman lost 7-4, 6-4 to Ricard Novell in a competitive match. Lucas Machado at No. 3 pushed his match but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-1.
Belmont Abbey continued its momentum through the lineup as Beckham Sylvester (No. 4), Rohan Chalisgaonkar (No. 5), and Ben Jones (No. 6) were each defeated in straight sets.
In doubles play, the Crusaders secured the point with wins at all three positions. Machado/Neleman fell 7-6 at No. 1 doubles, while the pairs of Chalisgaonkar/Sylvester (6-2) and Jones/Meshel (6-3) were also defeated. The doubles results gave Belmont Abbey an early advantage that carried through the rest of the dual.
Despite the sweep, King displayed competitive rallies and strong effort, particularly in the tight matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, providing valuable experience for the remainder of Conference Carolinas play.

Women:
 
The closest contest came at No. 1 singles, where Deniz Aytun battled Kaitlin Nguyen in a competitive first set but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-4. Other singles competitors, including Alexis Burkhalter (No. 2), Hanley Riner (No. 3), Mackenzie McCarthy (No. 4), Leilany Sanchez (No. 5), and Rebekka Collyer (No. 6), were defeated in straight sets, with Belmont Abbey maintaining control throughout the lineup.
In doubles play, the Crusaders secured the point early, winning at all three positions. Aytun/Moore lost a tight No. 1 doubles match, while Malhoe/Robinson (No. 2) and Tranchita/Blecher (No. 3) were defeated, giving Belmont Abbey the momentum heading into singles play.
Even in defeat, King showcased determination across all flights, gaining experience to carry forward into future Conference Carolinas matchups.
