King Men’s Volleyball Battles but Falls 3–0 to LIU

King University traveled to Miami Shores on Monday evening looking to break through in non-conference play, but LIU’s balanced offense and efficiency at the net proved too much to overcome. The Sharks hit .292 as a team and controlled key moments in all three sets on their way to a 3–0 sweep of the Tornado (27–25, 25–19, 25–21).

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — King University took the floor at the Health & Sports Center on Monday evening hoping to snap its skid, but LIU's offensive rhythm and pressure from the service line carried the Sharks to a straight-set victory. The loss moves King to 3–12 (0–6 Conference Carolinas), while LIU improves to 7–9 (1–1 NEC). A crowd of 43 was on hand for the neutral-site matchup.

LIU Edges Out a Tight Opening Set

The Sharks opened the match with steady attacking, hitting .263 in the first frame while King countered with one of its strongest offensive sets of the night at .212. Colton Bueter and Carson Pliapol combined for 11 kills in the opener, helping King push LIU to 17 ties and seven lead changes.

Despite the Tornado's improved efficiency, LIU's late-set execution — led by Ike Vernon and Kale Spencer — lifted the Sharks to a narrow 27–25 win.

Sharks Pull Away in Set Two

LIU found another gear in the second set, hitting .361 with 17 kills and just four errors. Vernon continued to pace the offense, while setter Owen Holowecky directed the attack with precision, finishing the night with 41 assists.

King hit .179 in the frame, with Bueter and Claiborne adding key swings, but LIU's pressure from the service line (six aces in the match) and strong blocking presence allowed the Sharks to take control for a 25–19 win and a 2–0 match lead.

LIU Completes the Sweep

The Sharks maintained momentum in the third, hitting .250 and continuing to apply steady pressure at the net. Vernon capped off a dominant night with several late kills, while Spencer and Cabinian added timely swings.

King showed stretches of strong play — highlighted by nine kills in the set — but attack errors again proved costly. LIU closed out the match 25–21 to secure the sweep.
