Snow Hill, N.C. – The King University men's golf team opened play at the Conference Carolinas Championship on Sunday with a steady performance, finishing the first round tied for eighth place in a competitive 12-team field alongside Shorter. As a team, the Tornado posted a score of 302 (+14), positioning themselves in the middle of the leaderboard heading into Monday's second round.
Leading the way for King was
Garrett Wellman, who turned in an impressive round of 73 (+1) to sit in seventh place individually after day one. Wellman's consistent play kept him among the tournament's top contenders early on.
Vetle Saether also delivered a strong performance, carding a 74 (+2) to finish the day tied for 15th, giving King another golfer inside the top 20.
Carter Myers added a round of 77 (+5), placing 35th, while
Carles Calvo Molina and
Nathan Hopley each posted rounds of 78 (+6) to sit tied for 39th.
With two rounds remaining, the Tornado will look to climb the leaderboard as play continues at the Conference Carolinas Championship on Monday, with
Nathan Hopley teeing off first at 9:50 am.
