BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has named their student-athletes of the month for the month of October. Kate Dietrich of the cycling team and Connor Hatfield of esports team took home honors this month.
Dietrich had a big month that culminated in a 13th place finish in the omnium at the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships. At the event, she finished 29th in dual slalom and 38th in cross country before finishing 26th in downhill and 44th in short track. Earlier in the month, she finished fifth in cross country and sixth in short track at the Appalachian State race.
Hatfield (y0shi1) has been an integral player on the King esports team, playing both League of Legends (LoL) and Overwatch (OW). In the win over Ole Miss, he went 5/0/5 (5 kills, 0 deaths, and 5 assists), helping the Tornado clinch their first LoL preseason victory. From there he has stepped up to help the OW team in the DPS (Damage per Second) role and has helped guide the team from a record of 1-5 to now 5-7. He carried big eliminations against Baylor University, Liberty University, Old Dominion University, and Lafayette College. He currently holds an 80 win percentage and has an average of 21 eliminations per game with Torbjörn.
