BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has named their student-athletes of the month for the month of March. Ashley Berlin of the acrobatics & tumbling team and Jon Wheaton of the men’s volleyball team took home honors this month.
Berlin was selected for the NCATA National finals for her individual performance came against #4 Azuza Pacific in the aerial pass with a program-high 9.900 to help her reach the NCATA finals. Berlin ended the national event in fifth.
Wheaton had a stellar month for the Tornado helping King go 4-1 with their only loss coming in the conference championship match against Barton College, a game that took all five sets and some to finish. Wheaton had a total of 23 kills in the month of April with 1.10 kills per set and hitting .273. Wheaton was a key contributor in the middle however, with 23 total blocks in the month with 1.10 blocks per set. His best-blocking performance coming against Barton where he racked up ten total blocks in the well-fought battle against the Bulldogs.
