BRISTOL, Tenn. – Due to impending weather forecasted for this weekend, King College Baseball has announced a schedule change to the upcoming series against Belmont Abbey College. The Crusaders and Tornado will begin the series on Friday at 1 p.m. and play two games. The series will conclude on Saturday with a tentative start time for 12 p.m.
King (25-16, 14-10) and Belmont Abbey (29-17, 17-7) will play one nine-inning and one seven-inning game on Friday, April 20 at the King College Baseball Complex. All action will begin at 1 p.m.
Saturday the team will return to conclude the series and regular season at 12 p.m. As part of the Dogwood Weekend festivities and in honor of the Hall of Fame Class of 2012, the 1987 NCCAA National Champion baseball team will be honored prior to the game with a special first pitch being thrown out by Darrell Mullins, a member of the '87 team. He will be throwing the honorary first pitch to his son and current Tornado freshman Stephen Mullins.
If the season ended today, King would take claim to five seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The top six teams gain entrance into the tournament, hosted by Barton College at Fleming Stadium (Wilson, N.C.). The participants and seeding is determined by highest conference winning percentage. Nationally-ranked Mount Olive College has already clinched the East Division and Regular Season Championship, and the number one overall seed in the tournament. The tournament runs from April 26-29.
