Baseball Rolls to 17-1 Win Against Glenville State

Every King position player had at least one run scored while Wes Houser pitched six strong innings for the Tornado.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Junior Hunter Smith (Bristol, Tenn.) hit a three-run homer in the second to lead the Tornado offensive onslaught of Glenville State in a 17-1 win on Saturday at the KU Baseball Complex.  Smith went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.

Smith drove in the first run of the game in the first inning on an RBI-single and junior Garrett Cook (Luray, Va.) scored on an error on the play to make it 2-0 King.

Smith's three-run homer in the second capped a five-run second inning to stretch the lead to 7-0.  In the third, junior Tom Hooker (Crystal Lake, Ill.) hit an RBI-double, and junior Jose Sola (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) hit a sac-fly to make it 9-0.

King's strong offensive performance continued in the fourth as Cook hit a two-run double to cap the six-run fourth to stretch the lead to 15-0.  The Tornado finished their scoring in the fifth with two more runs to make it 17-0.

That would be plenty of support for senior starting pitcher Wes Houser (Knoxville, Tenn.) who went six innings and gave up no runs on five hits with three strikeouts to improve his record to 2-1.

Glenville State (0-2) starter, Chris Knapp, took the loss and gave up 14 runs (nine earned) on seven hits and five walks.

King (6-4) will conclude its two-game set with Glenville State on Sunday at the KU Baseball Complex with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
