BRISTOL, Tenn. – Former King University baseball player Octavio Mirabal was selected as a Coastal Plain League (CPL) All-Star when the league announced their teams last week. Mirabal is one of nine pitchers selected to the Coastal Plain League American All-Star roster.
He plays for the Morehead City Marlins and is one of three Marlin pitchers to be selected to the all-star game, including the All-Star Game starting pitcher. Mirabal is the only player from a Conference Carolinas member school to be selected to the CPL All-Star Game.
Mirabal has started five games for the Marlins, including the season opener where he tossed five and two-thirds innings and struck out three. His longest outing of the season of six innings came on June 7 when he struck out seven in a 10-2 victory.
He leads the league with five starts and is second with three wins as he is 3-0 on the season. His 26 and one-thirds innings pitched and earned run average of 2.73 both rank seventh in the CPL. Mirabal averages 6.84 strikeouts per nine innings, ranking him ninth in the league.
The CPL All-Star Game is scheduled for Monday, July 9 at 7:35 p.m. in Lexington, S.C.
