Amber King

King returned to her alma mater in 2012 to lead the cheerleadingsquad. She was then selected as the first acrobatics and tumblingcoach at King in the 2013.

Amber King '08 (formerly Morrell) brings a combined 15 years ofcheer experience and began excelling during her days as a member ofthe Cheer team at King. Most recently, she served as head cheercoach at Newberry College (SC) where she began in July 2011. ThereKing choreographed competition routines for CANAM and CCA Nationalevents while producing multiple fundraising activities for theteam. In addition to competing at a national level, her squadperformed at all Newberry football and basketball games. She alsoproduced promotional video and photos for the Wolves Cheerleadingwebsite.

King has served as a cheerleading coach with a variety oforganizations in the youth and collegiate levels while earnedmultiple distinguished honors. This year, she was named among theTop-25 Coaches in America by the Christian Cheerleaders of America(CCA) after a trio of spectacular finishes in competition. King ledher team to a First Runner-up honor at the CANAM Nationals, aNational Championship in the All-Girl CCA Nationals, and wascrowned Grand Champion as the best overall college team at the 2012CCA Nationals. Her squad was also selected to be featured in theOctober/November 2011 edition of The Cheerleader Magazine in whichthe team was highlighted in a two-page spread and senior captainMallory Tomes was spotlighted among cheerers from NCAA Division Ischools North Carolina State University, Louisiana StateUniversity, and Mississippi State University.

Head Acro & Tumbling Coach 

King is the founder and creator of Tumbling Cheer at CelebrationChurch, an organization educating youth interested in cheerleading,in 2009. The group currently services 45 members and has grownconsiderably in just its third year of existence. 

From 2005 to 2008, King was an instructor for the UniversalCheerleaders Association where she was a part of over 52 camps thathosted over 1,000 cheerleaders. At that time, she also beganserving as a Spirit Event Coordinator judge which she remainsactive in.

Prior to her time at Newberry, King worked as an UndergraduateAdmissions Representative and Student Support Specialist at KingCollege for one year, beginning in July 2010.

"I am thrilled to have Amber as our full time cheerleadingcoach," said athletic director David Hicks. "The elevation of thisposition to full time status, along with Amber's extensiveexperience, record of success, and familiarity with King will be atremendous benefit for our student athletes and KingAthletics."

She began her time at King College as a student in 2004 whereshe studied Sport Management and was a member and coach of thecheer team. King was a part of the College's first cheer team,established in 2004, and captained the squad for three years.Following her graduation, she served as assistant coach to the LadyTornado in 2008 and was a major contributor in readying the teamfor their first official competition in which they placed secondoverall.

"I have developed great sentimental meaning for this program atKing (College)," said King. "Coaching goes beyond teaching skillsand it's my passion to mentor these young athletes and help them beable to change lives themselves. I want to set them up for successon and off the mat. I was called to coaching at 19 years old andGod gave me that vision while standing on the track in the StudentCenter, so returning to my Alma Mater is very exciting and I amjust honored to be a part of it.

King '08 holds a Bachelor of Business in sport management with aminor in coaching from King College. She recently completed hermaster's degree in coaching education from Ohio University inAthens, Ohio. She is a Bluff City, Tenn. native where she attendedSullivan East High School (Bristol, Tenn.).

"I plan to grow this program into a nationally-recognized team,enter more competitions, be involved in the community andinstitution, take mission trips, and more importantly establish afaith-based team," continued King. "I have a vision for thisprogram to consist of coed, all-girl, mascot and competitive teamsthat become the face of the college in many ways, support allintercollegiate teams and are heavily involved in campus activitiesand events. I am excited to be a part of taking this program to thenext level!"

Amber and her husband, Greg, were married May 19, 2012, and andcurrently reside in Johnson City, Tenn., with their son, Jack(4).
