Cycling team begins season with strong showing

The King cycling team traveled to Statesboro GA to the 'Battle of the Boro hosted by Georgian Southern University.  Competing in some of the largest fields witnessed in the conference in several years the King cyclists managed some excellent individual and team results to move them to the top of the points table in their division.  Led by the Women's time trial team who beat some very strong teams to win.  Spearheaded by MBA student Kate Ross with solid work by sophomore Stephanie Cucaz and freshman Megan Rogers the ladies beat their nearest rivals University of Florida by ten seconds to secure the win and maximum points for King.

The road race followed later in the day with all team members active in the races in cold, wet and windy conditions.  In the men's races Derek Hurst sprinted to the line after a 40 mile race to beat out a group of challengers and finish third in the men's B race.  In the men's C Freshman Paul Galewski, Dyersburg TN, placed 10 overall in a huge field for a great result in his very first collegiate race while veteran Reid Yoder, Hoagland IN, finished with a strong placing at fifteenth. 

The men's A race was full of strong teams and individuals.  After more than fifty miles of intense racing it came down to a sprint finish of the peleton with junior TJ Killelea, Redbank TN, coming in sixth overall while Julian Cabra, Greenville SC and Casey Stallard, Bristol VA, rounding out the top twenty.

The women continued their strong form with Kate Ross coming second with great teamwork from freshman Megan Rogers, Soddy Daisy TN, throughout the race who herself finished ninth overall and Stephanie Cucaz who battled through some early difficulties with her lungs came in tenth overall.
