King hosts cycling race Saturday and Sunday

BRISTOL, Tenn. – This Saturday and Sunday, the King University cycling team hosts a race right here in Bristol. The race will consists of three phases, the time trial will be held Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. with the criterium following in the afternoon. Finally, the road race will be held Sunday morning starting at 8:30 a.m.

King will welcome at least 10 teams to the event, including Brevard College, Mars Hill College, Cumberland University, Lees-McRae College, Milligan College, Virginia Intermont College, University of Florida, Georgia Tech University, Georgia Southern University, and University of Clemson.

The time trial on Saturday will take place on 394 from the South Holston Dam to Bristol Motor Speedway while the best fan friendly event, the criterium, will take place in downtown Bristol. The event will start one block off of State Street, just behind Manna Bagel Co., on the Tennessee side. The race wraps up on Sunday at the South Holston Dam with the road race. The first class is slated to start at 8:30 a.m.

The Tornado currently leads Brevard in the conference standings as the teams try to earn the automatic bid to the national meet in May. Some of the individuals have already qualified for nationals, but winning the conference title would automatically qualify the category A team for the national meet.
