BREVARD, N.C. – The King University cycling team opened the 2014 mountain biking season over the weekend with a solid showing at Brevard College. Cory Rimmer paced three Tornado that competed with top-10 finishes in both the cross country and short track races.
On Saturday in the cross country race, Rimmer took a second place finish in the category A race. He battled with a Brevard College rider, who won the race the entire way on what was a very technical course, but Rimmer couldn't get past him to take a runner-up finish. In the category B race, Blake Adams turned in a very solid performance in his first ever mountain bike race, finishing 11th.
Rimmer kept the momentum going on Sunday, taking eighth in the category A short track race. Drew Bailey also competed in the short track category A race, taking 20th in his first race of the season. Adams had to fight through some adversity in the B race after running fourth for the majority of the race. He overcame a crash, a mechanical issue and was nearly lapped by came back to take 11th a field that had more than 25 riders.
The Tornado will be in action again next weekend right down the road at the East Tennessee State University race.
