Wilkening leads King at season-opening road race

CLEMSON, S.C. – The King University cycling team open the road season this weekend at the Clemson race and newcomer Eric Wilkening turned in a solid first performance. The senior posted a pair of top five finishes in his first career race.

Wilkening joined the cycling team after playing soccer for the Tornado and started his career with a third place finish in the category C road race and took second in the criterium. Also racing in category C, Quenton Lyons finished 38th in the criterium and 44th in the road race.

In category A, Blake Adams finished 14th in the criterium and 26th in the road race while William Guillen finished eighth in the critrerium and 23rd in the road race. Racing in category B, William Mehta turned in an eighth place finish in the criterium and 15th place finish in the road race. Also in category B, Reuben Dupre finished 15th in the criterium and 23rd in the road race while Taylor White took 39th in the road race. Mehta, White, Dupre and Wilkening finished fifth in the team time trial.

On the women's side, Emily Cox finished sixth in both the category A criterium and road race.

King will be in action again on April 11-12 at the Milligan College race.
