Dan Kreiss brings a wealth of coaching experience having coacheda variety of sports over more than 20 years including cricket,softball, rugby, and basketball. He enters his fifth year asthe head coach for Tornado Cycling.
In 2012-13, Kreiss guided the King cycling to new heights asthey won their first ever Southeast Collegiate CyclingConference (SECCC) championship. The Tornado also made their secondconsecutive appearance in the Collegiate Cycling NationalChampionships in Ogden, Utah. However, the Tornado came home withan eighth place finish after having some bad luck as a couple ofriders got caught up in accidents that ended their weekend's.
Tornado Cycling came out of its shell and into the spotlightduring the 2011-12 season as Kreiss led his team to the CollegiateCycling National Championships for the first time in theprogram’s young history. The Tornado rode strong in all threeevents, held in Ogden, Utah, and finished with a fifth place podiumplacing in the Team Omnium.
The 2011-12 season was overall a successful campaign as theTornado finished second overall in the (SECCC) by a mere sixpoints. At the conference championships Kreiss watched three of hisriders earn medals in their respective divisions, includingConference Champion Stephanie Cucaz who won the gold medal in thewomen’s ‘A’ division. Casey Stallard won thesilver in the men’s ‘B’ class and Blake Adams,with his team-leading eight race wins, won the gold medal in themen’s ‘C’ category.
Prior to coming to King, he was head coach of the basketballprogram at Hutt International Boys' School in Wellington, NewZealand for 10 years. He took several teams to playoff andchampionship games before making the move to King to run the YouthMinistry program.
Kreiss was the head coach of the men’s junior varsitybasketball team for one season and assistant coach for theTornado basketball squad for three seasons before taking the headjob with the cycling team in 2009. Kreiss aided the team toward asecond place finish in the team’s first season of competitionin 2010.
Kreiss graduated from Eastern University in 1988, with a BA ineducation, History and Youth Ministry and received his MEd. fromMassey University (New Zealand) in Educational Guidance in 2000. Heis a USAC certified coach and teaches in the youth ministry andphysical education departments at King.
