BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University basketball teams swept the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week awards this week. Kori West averaged a double-double in three games for the Tornado, taking home Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors while Jordan Floyd took honors on the men's side after averaging 25.0 points per game.
West had a monster week for King, leading the Tornado three wins, including a win that ended Barton College's 11-game winning streak. The sophomore posted three double-doubles, shot 70.0 percent from the floor and averaged 22.7 points and 16.0 rebounds per game. She started by matching her career-high with 22 points to go along with 15 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in a win at Erskine College.
The Shelby, N.C., native outdid those numbers when she registered career-highs of 28 points and 20 rebounds while going 11-for-13 from the floor in the win over Barton. That marks the first time since King became NCAA Division II members a Tornado has posted a 20-20 game, and the first time a player has grabbed at least 20 rebounds in game. West capped the week with 18 points and 13 rebounds for her seventh double-double and fifth in the last six games as the Tornado defeated the University of Mount Olive.
Floyd led the Tornado to a 3-0 week with three 20-point performances that lifted the Tornado into second in the conference standings. The junior started the week with 21 points and added four assists in a win at Erskine College, shooting 5-for-9 from three-point range in the contest. On Friday night, Floyd posted his fifth 30-point outing of the season, scoring 30 points in a win over Barton College. The Stone Mountain Ga., native shot 11-for-17 from the floor and added three assists in the contest.
He capped the week by going 11-for-13 from the free throw line and scoring 24 points, including 17 in the second half, in a win over league-leading University of Mount Olive. For the week he shot 50.0 percent from the floor and 40.9 percent from three-point range while averaging 25.0 points and 3.3 assists per contest. On the season, Floyd has nine 20-point games, and five 30-point outings.
This marks the second straight week West has been selected Conference Carolinas Player of the Week while Floyd garners Conference Carolinas Player of the Week recognition for the first time in his career.
Both the King men's and women's basketball teams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Emmanuel College. The women are scheduled to tipoff in Franklin Springs, Ga., at 2:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 4:00 p.m.
