Late runs top Tornado at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The King University men's basketball team fell behind at Emmanuel College early on Saturday afternoon. However, the Tornado dug out of the hole in the second half to take the lead, but they couldn't sustain the advantage. The Lions closed the game on a 15-7 run to take the contest 94-86.

  • The Lions shot a blistering 60.6 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from long range in the first half.
  • Emmanuel closed the opening stanza on a 20-6 run over the final seven minutes to open up a 51-36 advantage at the break.
  • The teams went back-and-forth in the early part of the contest with six ties and eight lead changes.
  • Dontae Campbell capped a 5-0 run that put the Tornado ahead 19-16 midway through the first half, but the Lions answered and regained the advantage.
  • The Tornado deficit grew to 17 early in the second half, but the Tornado rallied, using a 7-0 run to get back within 63-57 following a pair of Jordan Floyd free throws with 12 minutes remaining.
  • Floyd later gave King the lead at 71-69 with one of his four triples in the contest.
  • Over the final nine minutes, the lead changed hands six times and the score was tied twice.
  • The final tie came at 79 before the Lions went on a 6-0 run to gain the advantage with two minutes remaining.
  • Emmanuel then closed out the 94-86 victory with a 7-3 run.
  • Je'Don Young led the Tornado with 26 points to go along with four rebounds and five assists.
  • Floyd followed 25 points and Campbell chipped in with 17 points and eight rebounds.


  • Kendrick Colvin led Emmanuel with 30 points and eight rebounds.
  • Elijah Robinson followed with 23 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
  • The final two Lions in double figures were Emerson McClung and Colton Collins with 10 points apiece.


  • Campbell set a career-high with 17 points and was within one of his career-high with eight rebounds.
  • Young matched his career-high of 26 points.
  • Floyd reached the 1,000-point plateau in his career that started at Albany State University. He has 1,003 career points, 743 coming at King.
  • For the fourth straight game, Young and Floyd have eclipsed the 20-point plateau.


  • King travels to North Greenville University on Tuesday. Tipoff from Tigerville, S.C. is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
  • Emmanuel travels to Limestone College on Saturday.
