BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's basketball team won the Conference Carolinas season regular title, and on Sunday night the learned they earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship. The Tornado will be the eighth seed and take on top seed and NCAA Southeast Regional host Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday.
King went 19-10 on the season, winning the regular season Conference Carolinas title with a league mark of 14-4. The championship marks King's second in the last three years and second Conference Carolinas title.
The trip to the NCAA Regional is the third for the Tornado since becoming NCAA Division II members in 2011-12. King made the NCAA Tournament in 2011-12 when it was hosted by the University of Montevallo, falling to Lincoln Memorial in the first round. The last time the Tornado reached the NCAA Tournament was 2015-16, falling to Lenoir-Rhyne University in the first round when the regional was hosted at Lincoln Memorial.
The Railsplitters are the top-ranked team in the country with a record of 30-1, going 20-0 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). Lincoln Memorial won both the SAC regular season and tournament titles.
The Southeast Regional will feature a pair of the nation's top 10 teams in Lincoln Memorial and Queens University. The bracket is rounded out with UNC Pembroke, Clayton State, Carson-Newman University, Francis Marion University and Lees-McRae College.
The game times for each contest will be announced on Monday morning.
