BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's basketball team has been selected to win the Conference Carolinas regular season championship in 2018-19. The Tornado received 83 points and five first-place votes in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Coaches' Poll.
King made their third NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship appearance last season, earning an at-large bid. The Tornado won their third Conference Carolinas regular season title, going 14-4 in league play a season ago.
Head coach George Pitts returns a pair of All-Conference Carolinas performers, including Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Jordan Floyd. Floyd was also selected D2CCA first team All-Southeast Region and NABC second team all-region. He also garnered ECAC Player of the Year accolades after leading Conference Carolinas with an average of 21.7 points per game.
Je'Don Young was selected second team All-Conference Carolinas after averaging 14.8 points per game and shooting 41.0 percent from three-point range. Also returning for the Tornado is Mike Salomon who shot 43.3 percent from long range.
King is tied atop the preseason poll with Barton College who earned three first-place votes.
The Tornado open the 2018-19 season on November 9 when they take on Flagler College at 7:00 p.m. King then takes on Columbus State University on November 10 at 4:00 p.m.
