First round 321 for King golfers at Rendelman

SALISBURY, N.C. - King College started the 2011 Rendelman Invitational Monday with an opening-round 321.

Josh Bamberger (Waterloo, Canada) and Nick Carden (Hixson, Tenn.) both carded rounds of 79 on the Par-71 layout. Matt Love (Johnson City, Tenn.) added an 81 while Richard Powell (Hixson, Tenn.) rounded out the team scoring with an 82.

UNC Pembroke and Queens (N.C.) University of Charlotte played to the top of the team standings each with a 292. Belmont Abbey (N.C.) College and Carson-Newman (Tenn.) College both finished at 295.

Gavin Hay, from Carson-Newman, took the individual lead with a 68, three-under-par. Only four golfers broke par on the 6,665-yard layout.

The teams will close the event out Tuesday with the final round at the Country Club of Salisbury.
