King battles to 10th after opening round

GREENSBORO, N.C. - King College saw a 77 from Adrian Kibsey lead the Tornado opening day of the Tom & Bettie O'Briant Memorial Monday.

Kibsey, from Winnipeg, Canada, was seven-over-par in the first round which has him in a tie for 15th. Josh Bamberger (Waterloo, Canada) was a shot behind, tied for 18th, thanks to the 78.

Richard Powell (Hixson, Tenn.) added an 81 while Tommy Ricker (Parrottsville, Tenn.) carded an 84.

Greensboro (N.C.) College, ranked as the No. 1 NCAA Division III squad nationally, and Bridgewater (Va.) College both posted team scores of 305 to lead the field. Methodist (N.C.) University was a shot behind and Guilford (N.C.) College posted a 308. King's team score of 320 had the Tornado in tenth. Hampden-Sydney College was a shot ahead of King.

Guilford's Mat Hennick led the individual standings with a 69, the only golfer under par.

The final round of the event will start Tuesday morning at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club. The course played as a Par-70 at 7,002 yards.
