BRISTOL, Tenn. - As the 2016 season is nearing its end the Conference Carolinas have announced their Academic All-Conference Team for Men's and Women's Golf. The conference and its member institutions stress the importance of "Academics and Athletics Working Together" and the student-athletes named to Academic All-Conference teams are those who best represent this value. Two member from each the King University women's and men's golf teams have been recognized among the lists of 18 athletes.
The student-athletes that have earned this honor are all juniors and seniors who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The GPA is calculated based on the student-athlete's cumulative average through the previous semester. Each of Conference Carolinas' twenty sponsored sports has its own Academic All-Conference team, recognized as the regular season comes to a close. In addition to the GPA and class-standing requirements, student-athletes must have attended their member institution for at least one full academic year.
Jake Stone, Samuel Hobday, Elizabeth Swallow, and Samantha Taylor all represent King among the selections. Stone carries a 3.546 GPA and competed in the King University Invitational this season posting a score of 80 in a round of play. Hobday carries a 3.834 GPA and has competed in six tournaments for the Tornado this season. He posted a season best round score at the Kiawah Island Invitational shooting a 70, where he finished in the top 25. Swallow carries a 3.858 GPA and has competed in all eight of King's tournaments this season. She has earned three top 10 finishes, including finishing runner-up in the Agnes-McAmis Memorial. She recorded a season best round of 73 at the Converse Spring Invitational. Taylor carries a 3.414 GPA and has helped lead King in all of their competition this season, where she has landed four top 10 finishes. She posted a season best round of 73 at the Pfeiffer Invitational where she finished in fifth place.
The Tornado close out the 2016 season at the Conference Carolinas Championships on April 17-19. The championships for Men's and Women's Golf will be hosted by Belmont Abbey on the "Champions" Course at Bryan Park in Greensboro, NC.
