Second-half goals sink Tornado at BAC

BELMONT, N.C. – The King University men's soccer team fell 3-1 against Belmont Abbey College on the road on Saturday afternoon. King evened the score early in the second half after Ben Delisle struck with a goal, but the Tornado couldn't stop the Crusaders from scoring a pair of goals later in the half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Belmont Abbey and King both showed drive in the opening minutes of the game, with Belmont Abbey taking the first two shots and King following with a Samuel Rincon shot that missed high.
  • The Crusaders and Tornado traded shots for the majority of the first half, with Belmont Abbey tallying 12 shots and King totaling five with shots from Leo Braga, Diogo Ruivo, and Delisle.
  • The energy on both sides picked up in the second half, as Belmont Abbey got on the board first with an Aaron Madison penalty goal in the 51st minute, but Delisle tallied the equalizer in the 53rd minute with an assist by Zubair Taylor.
  • In the 62nd minute, Kenz Buteau of Belmont Abbey connected with the net to pull the Crusaders ahead 2-1.
  • Nathan Rincon had an attempt to tie the game in the 65th minute, but the shot was off target.
  • Davis McBee of Belmont Abbey extended the Crusaders lead to 3-1 after connecting with the net for a goal that was assisted by Gianni Serio.
  • King had five more shots in the second half, but three were saved and two were off target.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • King took 12 shots, four shots on goal and one corner kick.
  • Dalton Gammon finished the match with six saves.

FOR THE FOES

  • Belmont Abbey took 19 shots and had nine corner kicks.
  • Ben Knust finished with two saves and Evan Morrow finished with one.
