BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's and women's swimming teams swept the Conference Carolinas Swimmer of the Week awards this week. Ashley Woods earned the women's award and Jan Kuljak took home honors on the men's side for their performances at the 2019 Le Meridien Fall Frenzy Invitational.
Woods set four individual school records over the weekend and helped 400 yard freestyle relay set another school record. She swam the first leg of the record-setting 400 freestyle relay time of 3:42.42. Individually, Woods set school records in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.25 on Friday before setting three on Sunday. The Keller, Texas native started with a school record swim of 2:01.02 in the 200 yard freestyle before setting school marks in the 1000 yard freestyle and the 1650 yard freestyle with times of 11:00.20 and 18:12.61 during the 1650 freestyle timed finals.
Kuljak set three school records over the weekend, starting with the 200 yard freestyle on Saturday with a time of 1:42.10. On Sunday he set two school records during the 1650 yard freestyle timed finals, the first was the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:00.20 and the other was the 1650 with a time of 16:21.48.
This marks the first Conference Carolinas Swimmer of the Week awards for each and the second time the Tornado women's team has had an individual earn swimmer of the week accolades.
King returns to the pool on January 18 when they face University of the Cumberlands at Tennessee High School.
