Tornado Tennis picks up victory over Milligan, Lady Tornado narrowly defeated

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The King College men's tennis team posted a 5-0 win over the visitors from nearby Milligan (Tenn.) College Wednesday, but the Lady Tornado suffered a narrow 5-4 setback.

The men's match started indoors at the nearby Bristol Country Club at 2 p.m. where the women's match was moved to around 4:15 p.m. until the conclusion three hours later. The women were able to play doubles on campus outside, but the rain forced the move in as singles' play was going on.

The women's contest came down to the No. 6 singles' contest that came down to a third-set tie breaker.

The Tornado improved to 9-4 after the match while Milligan's men own a 3-7 record. King has won seven straight over Milligan with the last four all being via shutouts. The Tornado won a 9-0 contest at Milligan on Sept. 28, 2010. Wednesday's shutout was the sixth for King this season, one off the total from last year's squad.

The Lady Tornado's record went to 7-7 with two of the setbacks coming in narrow matches against Milligan. When the two played on Sept. 28, 2010, at Milligan, the home team posted a 5-3 score. King won last season's meeting in Bristol 5-1 on March 4.

Next for the King tennis teams will be a trip to Averett (Va.) College Friday to face off at 3 p.m.
