King Tennis schedule announced for spring

BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College head men's and women's tennis coach Chris Bartlett has finalized the 2011 spring portion of the schedule as the teams will play 16 contests each starting on Feb. 9.

The teams' first match comes on Feb. 9 at NCAA Division I foe Wofford (S.C.) College. King welcomes North Greenville (S.C.) University on Feb. 17 before a weekend trip to Greensboro (N.C.) College and Winston-Salem State (N.C.) University on Saturday and Sunday. Next will be a trip to Tusculum (Tenn.) College Feb. 25 before the Tornado play at UNC Asheville on Feb. 28.

Both teams will play Queens (N.C.) University of Charlotte on March 2 before a small break. Converse (S.C.) College appears on the women's schedule on March 16 and both teams will play at nearby Milligan (Tenn.) College March 23. Two days later King goes to Averett (Va.) University.

King's longest homestand of the season starts on March 29 when Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University visits. Covenant (Ga.) College and Bluefield (Va.) College follow on April 2 and 5, respectively.

A trip to play at Belmont Abbey (N.C.) College and Coker (S.C.) College will occur on April 6 and 7 before the home finale on April 11 against Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University.

The regular season comes to a close on April 14 with matches at Newberry (S.C.) College.

King also has the NCCAA Tennis National Championship on the schedule in Mobile, Ala. The event runs from May 9-11. Both the Tornado and Lady Tornado squads qualified last season for the event.

The men will carryover a 5-0 record from the fall while the women posted a 4-1 mark. Last season the men's team compiled a 11-6 record while the women finished up at 8-8.
