King posts wins of 8-1 over Covenant

BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College won 8-1 in both men's and women's home tennis action Saturday over Covenant (Ga.) College.

The Tornado improved to 10-6 and snapped a three-match skid while the Lady Tornado has a 9-8 record after the day.

King swept doubles play with the Lady Tornado only losing 12 games. The Tornado had to work harder in doubles as Covenant came away with 16 games.

The men's match saw King win five of the six points in singles as all were decided in straight sets. Patrick Jones (Bristol, Tenn.) did not lose a game while Eiki Magnusson (Reykjavick, Iceland) won 6-1 and 6-1.

The Lady Tornado also won five singles' points. Virginie Brioschi (Geneva, Switerland) won a fifth straight No. 1 singles' contest with a 6-0 and 6-1 decision. Crystal Harwell (Nashville, Tenn.) added a 6-3 and 6-0 No. 5 win.

King stays at home for a 3 p.m. match Tuesday against Bluefield (Va.) College. The Tornado and Lady Tornado won at Bluefield on Sept. 14, the men with an 8-1 score while the Lady Tornado swept a 9-0 contest.
