King earns academic honor from ITA

ITA All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently announced their All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes for the 2012-13 season. For the second consecutive season, the King University men's tennis team earned this award while five members earned Scholar-Athlete status.

As a team, the Tornado were named to the list for the second straight season under head coach Kethan Darbar after posting a team grade-point average of 3.81.

Individually, Rodrigo Avila posted a perfect 4.0 GPA to earned Scholar-Athlete status for the second straight season. Patrick Jones and Pablo Vidal also earned recognition for the second time after posting GPAs of 3.86 and 3.90, respectively.

William Boyce and David Huff were named ITA Scholar-Athletes for the first time after registering GPAs of 3.96 and 3.63, respectively.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2012 and spring 2013).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
