Tornado drop heartbreaker at Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. – The King University men's tennis team traveled to Catawba College on Friday afternoon in search of their first dual match win of the season. However, the Indians escaped with a narrow 5-4 victory over the Tornado.

Catwaba (4-4) got off to a good start as they won all three doubles matches as they looked to set the tone for the match.

However, the Tornado didn't give up as they started taking singles matches. Pablo Vidal got the Tornado (0-2) on the board as he took a 6-4, 6-2 win over Matthew Nicholson at No. 2 singles while Luis Delgado topped Jack Mordey 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Leo Brigato earned King's third win as he defeated Michael Patch 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

William Boyce pulled King within one win of the dual match victory with his three-set victory at No. 6 singles. Boyce took the first set 6-3 before Catawba's Aaron Vanhorenbeck took the second set 6-2. Boyce then took the tiebreaker set 10-4 for the victory. However, the Indians took the final singles match to take the dual match 5-4.

King will be in action again tomorrow when the take on Emmanuel College. The dual match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
