BRISTOL, Tenn. – Prior to the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the league announced their academic all-conference performers. King University had four men and four women named to the team.
For the men, Daniel Kovalchick led the way with a 3.59 GPA while Tyler Edwards follows with a 3.45 GPA. TJ McMurray and Braidon Miller were honored as well with GPAs of 3.39. Kovalchick has set personal records in the 10,000 meters with a time of 34:53.34 and the 5000 meters with a time of 16:15.83. He also set a personal best with a 1500 meter time of 4:12.36. McMurray has also set three personal records, shot put, discus and hammer throw. He has marks of 13.49 meters in the shot put, 41.42 meters in the discus and 45.07 meters in the hammer.
On the women's side, Kaitlin Rivera leads the way with a 3.92 GPA while Hannah Kusmierz, Brianna Barrett and Michiah Watts were honored. Kusmierz owns a GPA of 3.76 while Barrett and Watts have GPAs of 3.67 and 3.44, respectively. Rivera set a personal record 5000 meter time of 20:24.76 this season while Kusmierz posted a personal record javelin throw of 27.89 meters. Barrett ran a personal best 800 meter race of 2:41.23.
Conference Carolinas academic all-conference teams are comprised of junior and senior student-athletes who have competed in a conference-sponsored sport and maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale in all work completed at their member institution.
The Conference Carolinas Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C.
