Conference Carolinas announces 2011 Men's Volleyball Athletes to Watch

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Conference Carolinas men's volleyball teams kick-off the 2011 season with teams beginning play next weekend and the league office announced the 10-member Athletes to Watch list.

King's duo of Joel Salva (Lake Mary, Fla.) and Morris Cephas (Richmond, Va.) were among the members. Salva, a setter for the Tornado team, was one of two people on the list that earned 2010 All-Conference Carolinas honors. Only Lees-McRae's Chad Mercado made both lists.

Following the league's recent announcement of men's volleyball becoming a full conference sport beginning with next year's 2012 spring season, this will be the second and final year Conference Carolinas will sponsor men's volleyball as an emerging sport. Next year's 2012 season will sustain enough member schools to be classified as an official conference sport while also becoming the first NCAA Division II league nationwide to fully support the sport.

This year's regular season starts Jan. 14 and will culminate with a two team conference championship.  The conference championship will be hosted by the highest seeded team based on final regular season results on Thursday, April 21, 2011. Mount Olive was the 2010 champion.

King opens the season on Jan. 14 when Lewis visits Bristol. The next day King plays conference foe Mount Olive. The Tornado went 13-7 a season ago with a 4-4 Conference Carolinas record.

Teams sponsoring men's volleyball this year that will compete in league play will be Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, Mount Olive College, Pfeiffer University, and King College*. Follow Conference Carolinas men's volleyball throughout the season at
