Pfeiffer Downs Tornado in Conference Carolinas Opener

MISSENHEIMER, N.C. – James Friddle led the Tornado with ten kills in the team's Conference Carolinas opener against Pfeiffer University on Saturday. King fell to the Falcons in straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-18), dropping them to 4-4 (0-1) overall on the season.

Five of James Friddle's 10 kills came in the third set of the match where he went a perfect 5-for-5 on the attack in the frame. The senior from Cartersville, Ga. hit .412 on the day, adding five digs and a pair of block assists.

In the first set, both teams battled to a 15-15 tie when Pfeiffer scored five of the next seven points to take a 20-17 advantage. King was within a point, 21-20, but a pair of attack errors allowed the Falcons to jump to a 23-20 lead before Pfeiffer put the set away.

Pfeiffer's nine attack errors helped keep the set close to the midway point before Konstantin Weise put down a pair of kills to give the Falcons the momentum. Pfeiffer put together a four-point run before Brandon Rorer (Richmond, Va.) broke the run with a service ace, 20-18. Both teams swapped points before King came within one, 24-23, when middleback Eric Glenn (Portsmouth, Va.) slammed down a kill. Pfeiffer's Quentin Moore finished off the set with the game-winning kill, 25-23.

King fell in the third set when the Falcons jumped out to a nine-point lead quickly, 19-10. King committed seven errors in the third set to help Pfeiffer close the match with a 25-18 third set and match win.

Redshirt-freshman setter Justin Crane (Richmond, Va.) led the team with 21 assists. Friddle put together 10 kills, five digs, and a pair of block assists in the loss.

The Tornado will travel to Phoenix, Ariz. to play Grand Canyon University and Johnson and Wales (CO) in a two-day tournament on Feb. 10-11. They will return to Conference Carolinas play against Mount Olive on Feb. 17 in Mount Olive, North Carolina.
