King tops Quincy in nonconference tilt

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team returned home to take on Quincy University on Friday night. The Tornado played well at the net in their 3-1 victory.

FINAL SCORE: King 3, Quincy 1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-21

RECORDS: King 11-8; Quincy 5-16


First Set

  • King used a 7-2 run early in the set, started by a Sean Kohlhase kill to take a 12-6 lead.
  • The Hawks then chipped away at their deficit for the remainder of the set, pulling within 23-21.
  • However, back-to-back Tornado points gave King the 25-21 victory.

Second Set

  • Four straight Tornado points broke a tie early in the second set, before Dalton Johnson and Suetonius Harris came up with back-to-back kills to cap another 4-0 that gave King an 11-6 lead.
  • The Tornado later led 21-15 before Quincy started coming to chip away at their deficit.
  • Four straight Hawk points pulled Quincy within 22-21 before they evened the score at 23.
  • Following a Tornado point, Quincy scored the final three points to take the set 26-24.

Third Set

  • Quincy held the advantage for the majority of the third set, but a 5-1 King run vaulted the Tornado in to a 19-17 lead as a Kohlhase and Julian Young blocked forced a Hawk timeout.
  • Harris latter capped a 3-0 spurt that put the Tornado ahead 24-20 before Johnson gave King the 25-21 victory with one of his six kills in the match.

Fourth Set

  • King jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth set following a Kohlhase ace.
  • The Hawks came back to even the score at eight, but King responded with a 4-1 run to regain control.
  • Kohlhase started a 7-2 Tornado spurt with a kill, and Joshua Kim gave the Tornado a 20-13 run with an ace that ended the spurt.
  • Quincy scored six of the next eight points, but King bounced back to take the 25-21 win on kills from Harris and Kim.


  • Kohlhase led the Tornado with 15 kills while Kim followed with 10 kills.
  • Harris added eight kills and eight digs.
  • Chandler Christy posted 35 assists and nine digs.
  • Constan Tolentino posted a career-high 10 digs.
  • King posted 11.5 blocks, their 10th match this season with at least 10 blocks.


  • Omari Wheeler led Quincy with 17 kills and Ben Rachilla added 10 kills.
  • Adam Rogan handed out 41 assists and Noam Hannoun recorded 17 digs.


  • King hosts Belmont Abbey College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Student Center Complex.
  • Quincy travels to take on Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday.
