King takes three CC Weekly awards

BRISTOL, Tenn. – On Wednesday when Conference Carolinas announced their weekly awards, three King University student-athletes were honored. Both Hannah Witt and Spencer Frantom won the awards for cross country while Elizabeth Swallow took home the women's golf award.

Witt earned the distinction for the second consecutive week and third this time this season. This week, the senior, set the school record, shattering her previous mark by 43 seconds when she covered the 5k distance in a blistering 17.22.6 at the highly competitive Royal Cross Country Challenge. The event included many NCAA Division I teams and Southeast Regionally ranked teams. Witt came in with a fourth place finish in field of nearly 300 runners. She only finished behind a pair of unattached runners and a runner from the University of South Carolina.

For Frantom, this marks the second time this season he has won this award. The senior led the Tornado to a second place finish at the Royal Cross Country Challenge, a meet that included many NCAA Division I teams and Division II Southeast Regionally ranked teams. The senior covered the 8k distance in 25:17.2, which was the second fastest time in school history. King finished second in 35-team field behind Duke and ahead of Charleston Southern.

Swallow couldn't have started her sophomore season any better as she won each of the first two tournaments she was in. First she shot 76 in the first round before shooting one-under 71 at the Tusculum Fall Classic to take the individual medalist title with a total of 147. At the King University Invite the sophomore carded back-to-back scores of even-par 71 to win the tournament by 10 strokes with a total of 142. In four rounds last month, Swallow averaged 72.25 strokes per round and was only one over for the month. Her three rounds of 71 also matched a career-low.

Both men's and women's cross country teams compete at the Conference Carolinas Championships next Friday, October 25 in Concord, N.C. as the women try to repeat as conference champions. Swallow and the women's golf team play in their final tournament of the fall on October 28-29 at the Lady Flames Shootout in Cleveland, Tenn.
