Lady Tornado defeated twice at Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The King College softball team came up short twice Thursday at Lees-McRae (N.C.) College as the games had scores of 7-3 and 8-2 in favor of the home squad.

King moved to 7-15 after the two games while Lees-McRae owns a 13-16 record.

A seven-run second inning proved to be the difference in game one.

King answered with a run in the third with a RBI single by Kendall Brabson (Bean Station, Tenn.) as Cassie Ringstaff (Richlands, Va.) scored. The Lady Tornado's other two runs were posted in the sixth and both were unearned.

Brabson and Aubree Hutt (Bristol, Va.) both had two hits apiece.

For Lees-McRae Kim Coley and Alison Armstrong finished game one with two hits each while Armstrong had two RBIs.

Samantha Watts (Nashville, Tenn.) tossed 2 1/3 innings and gave up the seven runs on seven hits.

Lees-McRae's Laurel Gregg went the first five and scattered three hits with the one run.

The second game was tied 2-2 after three innings, but Lees-McRae scored in the fourth with five more runs in the sixth. Each team scored a run in the first and third innings.

Christy Kooch (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double in the finale.

Kayla Blackburn and Paige Coleman each went 2-for-4 and both drove in four runs apiece.

Rachael Wilmoth (Morristown, Tenn.) tossed a complete game, but was hit for eight runs on 11 hits.

Magen West threw the first six frames for Lees-McRae with two runs on five hits.

King returns to action Monday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at East Tennessee State University.
