Lady Tornado uses game two win for split at LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. - King College split a softball doubleheader at Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University Saturday with the home team winning game one 8-3 before King evened things up with a 7-3 victory.

King scored a run in both the second and third inning followed by a two-run fourth and three-run fifth to help lead to a game-two win.

Christy Kooch (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 2-for-4 in the second contest while Jena Rickard (Bristol, Tenn.) used her only hit for a two-run double in the fourth.

Fallon Thomas (Bristol, Va.) scored two runs in the finale.

Rachael Wilmoth (Morristown, Tenn.) went the first six innings for the win. She gave up three runs on 10 hits. Samantha Watts (Nashville, Tenn.) came in to record the final three outs for her first save of 2011.

In the opener Cassie Ringstaff (Richlands, Va.) and Kooch both went 2-for-4 while Fallon Thomas (Bristol, Va.) drove in two of the Lady Tornado's three runs.

King had to climb out of a 5-0 hole after two innings.

Watts suffered the loss as five of the eight runs allowed were earned. Lincoln Memorial's Cierra Mudd tossed 4 1/3 innings for the win.

Jackie Adams and Bridget Eicher both had two-hit games in the opener.

King, now at 6-12, welcomes Mars Hill (N.C.) College to Bristol for a 2 p.m. doubleheader Sunday.
