Florida standout signs with King Softball

BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College has added Christina Melcher to the 2011 Lady Tornado Softball signing class as Melcher signed her national letter of intent last week.

Melcher attends University High School in Orlando, Fla. She has played in 24 games so far in her senior season with a .417 batting average and a .679 slugging percentage. She has scored 24 times with 23 RBIs thanks to 35 hits. She has walked six times and stolen seven bases. The right-handed batter plays in the infield and outfield.

"We are extremely excited about the addition of Chrissy," King head coach Jenn Testa commented. "Her experience and success both in the field and at the plate are a real steal for us. I truly believe all the pieces are falling into place for King softball to step into Conference Carolina's next season and be a team competing for that conference title."

She also plays for the Team Demarini club team where she has a .471 batting average.

Melcher was coached at University High by Mike Eastman and was a 2010 All-Conference selection. She also added a spot on the All-Central Florida team.

Her brother Nick currently plays for the Tornado baseball team.

King has a 10-24 record so far in the 2011 season and returns to action Tuesday at Concord (W.Va.) University with a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
